Children and youth need positive
role models in their lives. Research shows that one person
can make a profound difference in a troubled life. Many
options are available to offer a gift of time and attention to
children in great need. |
Volunteers - Adults can help by volunteering to be a
special advocate for a youth or child. Volunteers work
with the child's case manager to provide positive outlets, a
listening ear, transportation or other activities depending on
the need of the child. Many volunteers arrange to support
the children in following the program and offering activities as
rewards or a break. Children have attended plays, the
circus, ball games, movies, gone fishing and dined out as
activities. Many volunteers maintain contact with children
as they grow and leave Webster-Cantrell Hall service. |
Special Volunteer Opportunities
|
- Mentors - Adults can help children
in the PASS program be becoming a mentor. Mentors
support the child as they deal with school difficulties.
Mentors often help tutor, discuss problems at school and
provide activities as an incentive to do better socially and
academically in school.
- Tutors - Adults can help children
learn to read and perform other school tasks in order to
improve their school performance. Many children in
care are often behind their classmates for a variety of
reasons. Tutors can support children learning in the
on-grounds school or outside of classroom time.
- Service Learning or Group Projects -
Students can work in groups or individually to address
agency needs. Projects can be on a large or small
scale. Planting flowers, picking up grounds, painting
or providing a fun activity are all projects that have been
done by groups. Webster-Cantrell Hall supports the
school in providing Service Learning Project options.
- Internships - Students can complete
internship requirements at the Graduate or Undergraduate
level. Internships are tailored to the student's
particular needs and interests. Undergraduate
internships are unpaid. Certain Graduate internships
are offered a small stipend.
